We had 4 more wonderful adoptions over the weekend – made our 400th adoption and moved the total to 70 to go to meet the 100 cat challenge. Please know that even though we are excited about adopting our residents, we are careful to whom they go – our homes have to be loving, caring homes. If you could provide that, won’t you consider welcoming a new member into your family?
Our washer broke again! We have gone through so many dryers and two washers at SART. It is because I think they run almost 24/7 to keep up with the amount of laundry we have each day. We would love for a set of industrial sized machines to fall out of the sky onto SART property! It would be so welcome, and not something we can afford at this time. It is on our wish list!
Donations are down. Kroger cards are not being refilled. Money is desperately needed to keep us able to get the kitties the medical care they need. If you haven’t loaded your Kroger card recently, please do so. If you would like to make a donation, it is so easy. You can go through paypal, or send a check. Remember, anything is everything in the life and running of a shelter.
We figure we go through 100 pounds of food a day and approximately the same in litter for our residents. Of course, that counts the ingredients of our SART porridge that they all get in the morning. To make it, and to encourage shy, new ones to eat, and to sneak meds into the untrusting, we use canned food. We have found that Friskies Liver and Chicken Pate is the one that most will eat. If you want to donate a case or two of that, we would appreciate it – We go through a case in two days.
We need hard working, understanding, cat loving, detail oriented volunteers – our numbers have changed so much in the past year with cats and volunteers – we would love to have some volunteers fall from the sky as well – if the above words describes you, would you consider volunteering? Many hands make light work!
Our brothers are still in search of the perfect home. Their names are Toby and Levi. They are so handsome. One is black and the other is black and white. Potential adopters see that they are black, and pass right by them. That is such a sad thing. Black cats are so ignored for adoption. They are the sweetest guys – and they so want a home but they want to be together. See the story about them titled “So Full” and their picture in the previous post about them. I think they would be the most cuddly, loving, well behaved – they look at me with such anticipation – I tell them their perfect home will come.
Gabby – our poor sweetheart who is allergic to everything under the sun – would love to be in a home where their are no other animals, where she could sit and look out a window and enjoy the fresh breezes, and would be safe from the elements that cause her so much damage. We have her in her own cage to protect herself from exposures, wash her bedding in hypoallergenic detergent, she eats special food out of glass bowls, and at this point, is doing pretty well. She is such a friendly, sweet cat. If anyone has a home like I described and would love a companion cat, please contact me!
Felicia – a beautiful long haired Siamese with blue eyes – her family decided not to keep her, so she is with us – she is so quiet, shy and tidy – but so beautiful – she is definitely a piece of art for the quiet home with someone to love her.
Please contact SART through the contact page if you are the one for any of the situations I mentioned above – chilly weather is coming and we need to keep finding those great homes for our kitties that need to be moved to warmer conditions – maybe your home is their home!

Thank you to those of you who have opened your hearts and homes to our kitties. At this time in our 100 cat challenge, we have adopted 26 of the 100 that we need to find loving, wonderful homes for. The adoptions we have had are wonderful – the families have chosen kitties that will be perfect for their homes, and we have 26 into homes that they will have for their lifetime! How wonderful! 74 more. It is so important that we find more homes so that we can safely harbor our residents when the cold winds come. We had expanded our facility for the warm months into areas that are great for warm weather, but we will have to combine and move into our existing buildings these creatures so that they are comfortable for winter. Because we took in so many in the past 8 months, we are busting at the seams and need to continue this challenge so that we are able to keep everyone warm and healthy through the winter.
If you have been thinking about opening your home to a kitty, please contact us. We would love to introduce you to one of our beautiful kittens, our very sweet yearlings, or a wonderful adult who would love to have a family to be a part of. Please contact me through the contact page with any inquiries. We would be proud to help you find the perfect cat!

My husband recently set before SART the challenge of adopting 100 cats/kittens before year’s end in the hope of making the shelter a little easier to maintain and keep everyone more comfortable with more room for everyone. Of course, these adoptions have to be to wonderful loving homes, who will promise and follow through to keep their pet healthy, happy, safe and loved. If you have been thinking about adopting a kitty, please contact us. We have wonderful animals, ranging in age from 3 months up through the golden years – all wanting to have a family who will love them for their lifetime.
We expanded so much this year, and with cold weather just around the corner, we need to make sure our residents are safe from harm through the chilly months. We need to be sure they go to the homes they deserve – we always say “if you won’t love them at least as much as we do – you may not adopt from us.” We are very strict about this. We are also very strict about not displace a pet that already is in your home to make room for our animals, and not to overcrowd the household, which stresses everyone involved.
So, if you have love to give, can easily take on the care and responsibility of pet ownership, will be able to comfortably take in a kitty to your home without overcrowding, and are eager to take on the responsibility, please contact us. You can go to petfinder.com to see some of our animals – just know that we have many more – I know you will fall in love over and over again.

SART has been involved in a project that has taken a year this coming September. Short version is that an elderly couple began feeding a couple of strays a few years back. Wife was placed in nursing home, Husband became ill and subsequently passed away. Family friends contacted us about the situation. Upon arriving at the home, there were 28 cats/kittens at the time. I started feeding them nightly and slowly taking in the kittens, capturing the adults to get them spayed/neutered and medically cared for. Over the fall 3 more batches of kittens came out of hiding, which we then had to care for as well. The adults who were tame we incorporated into the shelter. The kittens came to the shelter. The property has now sold, the new owners do not want cats around, and I have 6 left that I need to find a wonderful farm for where there is safe shelter, good food every day, and room to roam. These 6 have been fixed, innoculated, wormed, and even though they are shy around humans, catch on to feeding time, are non aggressive and rather sweet when I am in their enclosure. I would love to find a clean, healthy environment for them. They would have to be contained for a month or so until they knew that their new home was safe, so that they will stay when released to roam around. They do not get under foot, and I would love to place them where there are no other cats so that they do not get threatened and run off in fear. If anyone knows of a farm like this that would be willing to welcome my 6 Carmeans to their property, please contact me through the Contact Page on the website. I would be happy to provide food, I would transport them to their new home, and I would show them how best to care for them while they are captive.
Because we are so full, I need to place them safely so that I can use their enclosure for our growing kittens. Plus, they deserve a safe place to live their lives, and feel safe and secure. Just another example of what happens when good hearted people begin feeding, without taking on the responsibility of getting the animals fixed. We spent many dollars on this project, and it would have been small money if the couple of strays were fixed when they first came. This is an example of how the population grows so quickly, becomes difficult to manage, and more expensive to maintain and tackle. We could have easily taken in a couple of strays a few years ago, but now have had to spend many hours doing what is best for 40 cats/kittens.
Let this be a lesson to all who feed. Capture them one by one, get them fixed, release them back and continue to feed. You will have wonderful animals to enjoy and they will so appreciate your attention, without having 3 litters a year. It is an easy remedy if done before so many are created.
