It’s a very simple process – see the instructions below. If you enrolled in the program after April 1, 2013, you are not required to re-enroll.

This coming Saturday, March 16th, SART is hosting a Zumbathon at Wright State Lake Campus in Dicke Hall from 2:30-4:30 in the afternoon. This will prove to be a fun event, I am sure! Tastefully Simple is also going to be there so that orders can be made and samples tasted. One of our volunteers dips candles, and is offering hers for sale with proceeds to SART. We will have door prizes, snacks, lots of Zumba for those of you that enjoy that, and I am sure, plenty of information about SART. $10.00 at the door, much fun inside. Please stop by and support SART.
Funds are needed to begin our community outreach this spring to trap, neuter and release more felines in the community that are feral. This will stop the reproduction, and over time, that population will dwindle to a more manageable amount. In the meantime, people will feed and watch over the ones we do, and funds are needed to cover the medical care we will provide. This is a very productive way to get a better handle on the population as we continue to do our rescue work and adoption.
We thank you for your following and support. Remember us this Saturday and come have some fun!

KieKie (the gold one!) and Bob!

SART has a story to tell. It started last summer when a lovely couple living at the lake for the summer noticed a young cat hiding in the rocks along the shore of the lake. They brought her food. She was shy and nervous, but so hungry. They started bringing her food morning and evening, sitting by her while she ate, slowly gaining her trust; and her appreciation showed. The couple was heading back to Florida for the winter so they contacted SART about the fate of this little cat they had named KieKie. They couldn’t take her with them, but they knew that when the cold winter wind started blowing, living in the rocks along the shore would be unsafe.
They captured her, brought her to SART, and said goodby. She was spayed, innoculated, wormed and examined for any other issues. It was slow for KieKie to adjust to no nice couple she had gotten to trust, new people, new surroundings and sounds, no rocks to hide in. We worked with her, talked with her, loved on her on her terms, and one day we could actually touch her! Then she started sitting at the front of her cage to watch us, listen to us, and be sure we came to visit her. This was over a matter of months – not a quick adjustment by any means, but slowly she started to trust.
SART received an email in December from another lovely couple who had a cat in their horse barn that was fixed and healthy and very friendly, who had recently lost his companion to an illness. They wanted a companion for their Bob, and wondered if SART had a kitty to fit the lifestyle of a horsebarn and a friendly cat. We thought of KieKie! How much fun she could have in a huge barn with a good friend to play with. So, we started making arrangements for the move. Everything she was used to went with her, her big cage, her blankies, her heater, etc. They took over where we had ended. They worked with KieKie, talked with her, loved on her, and gave her rewards and attention. Slowly, she started to respond to them, and to Bob. Bob even brought her a dead mouse and laid it at her cage as a token of friendship towards her! And so it continued. The new nice couple went to their horse barn twice daily to feed and care for their animals – giving KieKie special attention until they knew she was ready to come out into the barn and really play with Bob. KieKie is happy, Bob is happy, the nice new couple is happy, and the original couple is happy – all to know that there is good in people, life can be joyful, and one more kitty was saved to a wonderful life!

A new year has started. This one will be one of dreams fulfilled, new opportunities, and goals met. What does this mean for SART? It means that we will be doing more TNR, finding wonderful adoptive families, and educating about how community members can make a difference in correcting the state of homeless animals. Everyone can help. Become a team member with SART. Spend some time at our facility doing honest, hard work. It will do wonders for helping you feel refreshed and worthy. Help a stray get a better life by having the medical done, providing a safe place for it to live, and getting one more off of the streets….the possibilities go on and on.

Personally, I always advise people on how to fix problems in behavior with the pets in their homes. Litter box issues, misbehaviors, and frustrations take the fun out of pet ownership. I, too, had a few kitties in my home that were not ” following the rules” . I took action with the help of my volunteers. I made a room up for Catland, and kept them in that room over the holidays so that they would not be stressed while family was visiting over Christmas. I spent time each day brushing and loving on my kitties in their special room, which was filled with toys, blankies, catnip, treats, food, water and litter boxes. I reconnected with them on their level and their behavior changed. They are back in the household and I am continuing to spend the time with them every day, brushing, singing, and playing with them. They are happy, which makes me happy. I have always told people to spend time with their pets each day to keep them healthy, happy and interactive. I took my own advice, despite how horribly busy I am, and I see a huge difference. This tells me that my advice works. So, start the new year grooming a little more, playing a little more, and just sitting down and interacting with your pets a little more. You will see a huge, wonderful difference!

Thank you to all who help make a difference. Together we are making our little part of the world a happier place.
