We have a cat named Duncan, who came to us in the spring. He was very ill, and very untrusting of humans. It was clear that he had been abused and mistreated, probably his entire life to this point. The person who brought him had him neutered, given his shots, and he has been with us in a large cage learning to trust us. We can sit beside him and rub his head and neck and talk with him and he will be okay. One volunteer even got him onto her lap! But that is it. He has no trust for the other cats, he has no desire to come out of our huge cage we can sit in with him, and he seems perfectly content in his spot that is safe, with his food and water and litter box and blanket. But he is sad.
We think that it would take a very special person who truly understands cats, doesn’t have any right now, and would have the time to come to his level and work with him so that he learns that not all humans abuse and mistreat. If you think you are that person, please contact us. It would be a foster situation, at first, so that you could learn and he could learn and then we could evalute him. We just think there is something about him that warrants more time and work, rather than putting him in a warm barn with food and water. We think he needs more, and truly wants more, but is afraid.
