We are making an outside run for the cats at the shelter. It will be completely enclosed so that no climbers can scurry out. They will be able to go through a kitty door into the outside area, feel the grass on their feet, lay and bask in the sun, watch the birds more closely, play with the squirrels on the other side of the fence, feel the breeze and romp and play.
We were to begin construction on Saturday. Several volunteers have been helping getting everything to work correctly. A huge thank has to go to Jim Bradley, who had the know how and tools to make the run go together the most efficient way!
We have decided to name the outside play area “Cyrus Memorial Run”. We are hoping to also get new windows that look out over the run as well. The glass in the windows is very thin, and cracks easily. We want to replace the windows as we can with double pane glass for insulation and protection against cracks.
It will be a wonderful addition to the shelter. If anyone would like to donate to the memorial project, you may do so, in memory of Cyrus, or a special pet that you had along the way.
Through the sadness of last Saturday, a lasting memorial will be constructed to remember the cat who never gave up on humans, though time and time again, he had every reason to. Cyrus was a unique animal.
